At Therma Kōta, ‘waste not, want not’ informs all we do. We believe that making our products locally in Canada (versus off-shore), to last a lifetime, with as little excess as possible, helps to greatly reduce our eco-footprint.
With our made-to-order business model, we don’t over-produce excess inventory. Here are some more of our sustainable practices, which we’re constantly evolving. Because every little bit counts.
our sustainability initiatives:
Fabric cuttings are used to make tote bags, aprons, makeup bags and scrunchies.
As each shearling coat is being created, mittens are made with the extra material off-cuts.
Smaller pieces are cut into geometric shapes to be sewn together for our Hygge Handbag and Home Collection.
Extra shearling pieces are given to Indigenous makers of baby moccasins and baby mittens.
The tiniest remaining pieces are then used to fill pillows.
Fur pelts are stretched and blocked to increase the size and are fully utilized to make hood trims on styles like the SILJA.
All Therma Kota items are shipped in recycled cardboard.
All paper trash is collected in large recycled paper bags instead of plastic and delivered to a Waste Management facility to be recycled.
Therma Kōta’s hangtags are printed on recycled paper.
Shearling, the pillar of our brand, is a renewable natural resource. A by-product of the food industry, it is biodegradable, unlike faux fur made of plastic polymers.
